Welcome to the Bee Meadow Art Room!!

Hello and welcome to Mrs. Borbas’ web page for the art room at Bee Meadow Elementary School!  If you need to find me, the BMS art room is located across from the gym or I can be reached janis.borbas@hanoverschools.org.

This is my second year teaching art in Hanover Twp.  Since I am relatively new in the district I thought I’d include some biographical information about myself.  I have several college degrees: a B.A. in Studio Art from William Paterson University, where I also earned my teaching credentials and a B.S. in Business Marketing.  Currently I am enrolled in the Master's program at Kean University, where I will be earning a Master's degree in art this coming May!  I am a resident of Montville where I live with my husband, two daughters, and my dog Lillian.

My philosophy of education centers on the belief that all students can succeed at art because self-expression is possible for everyone.  In order for students to succeed in expressing themselves through art, they need to have a firm foundation in basic media and techniques interwoven with art history.  These include drawing, color and design principles, three-dimensional concepts, and experimentation with a variety of media.  Exposing students to the many possibilities present in making art expands their creative options, helps them to make decisions about their art, and increases the chance for successful expression through art.

My approach within this philosophy is to set parameters for students for each art project, and then encourage them to express their feelings, thoughts, and preferences through their art.  When students are free to do this, they develop the ability to solve creative problems in their own unique way and enjoy themselves while they do it!

Being an artist myself, I thoroughly enjoy inspiring children with the creative possibilities in art class.  This year we will explore traditional art media such as drawing, painting, and sculpture, as well as printmaking and fibers work.  Please make sure your child brings a smock to school for art class.

I am in the art room part-time:  Wednesday and Thursday all day, and Friday until noon.  Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns at janis.borbas@hanovertwpschools.org.  Here's to a year filled with creativity!
